Should 12U English be an entry Requirement for University Programs?

English is a subject that students either find fun and interesting or simply a pain in the - you know what, but regardless it is a course that is required for all high school students to complete for all four years. As a high school, grade 12 university student, I have come to notice that English is the number one subject that is required for students to take in all programs; be it university or college. Some of you reading this might be wondering why that is.

University English is a requirement for university programs because it:

Shows your ability to Communicate
12 U English equips students with the ability to process thoughts and ideas from your head and efficiently put them into sentences and paragraphs that are understandable.  English is a strong representation of how well you can communicate using various styles in literature. Being able to communicate is necessary, not just for university but for life in general. This skill is acquired through the English courses taken throughout your high school years. It becomes powerful when you can use it in order to be understood precisely. The skill of communication is a foundation for many things to come beyond schooling.

Makes You a Well Rounded Person
English is a course that displays students' ability to use the basic skills required in any program. Aside from English, teaching us the language English provides each student with the ability to understand and analyze better. These are skills that are required for any program, even if it is a mathematics based program. It shows the institutions that you are capable of understanding what you are being taught and can practicalize what you have learned.

Helps You With Note Taking
This may seem like a funny heading, but note taking means that you are understanding what you are being taught and putting the information received in your own words that you understand. This skill is constantly being used in almost all your high school courses and definitely in your university courses. When you take notes you should find the best method that works for you. It is a great way to also study information while being taught; that is just an example of how I use note taking to my benefit. In conclusion grade 12 University English should remain a mandatory course for university entry because it is a foundation to many programs in the university, and will help students be successful in any field of study they wish to enter.
